School Dog

This is School Dog, this week's freebie at the Hambo Hoedown. It came with several sentiments. I used "Have an A+ day!"
The Challenge at The Hoedown is to create a project that is school-themed. I decided to make my grandkids some bookmarkers. Both of them love to read! I think school would have been so much easier for me if I had liked to read. It wasn't until I started reading to my son when he was little, that I began to not only love to read but also comprehend what I read!
My bookmarkers are 6x3". I added background paper ( Katie loves peace signs and tie-die.), and a library card with their names on them. I colored the cute little School Dog image with Copics, punched a hole and tied on some ribbons.

I put some Clear Craft Lacquer on the dogs glass len's...lol

It's Debbie's Birthday Party!

The Challenge @ "Designed2Delight's Saturday DT Challenge" is "It's My Party!"
Debbie F. is Hosting this week's Challenge. Her birthday is in a few days, so her challenge to us is to make something, a card or project, that has a Birthday Party Theme!
I used the "Garden Party" image from Faith @ Designed2Delight. If you follow her Progressive Challenge, you received this image a few months ago for FREE! It's a fun image that can be used for almost anything! Check out the Store HERE.
I made a Birthday gift. A Post-It Note Holder with Matching Pen.
Here's how I made it:
Score a 11 x 4-1/4" piece of cardstock @ 2-3/4, 5-1/2" & fold.
Score a 2 x 2 1/2" piece of cardstock @ 1/2, 1, 1-1/2 & 2" & fold to create the pen holder. Glue it all together & decorate.
For the pen, buy any see-through pen. Remove ink cartridge. Roll a piece of matching Designer paper & insert into pen. Replace ink cartridge & there you have it! How fun is that?
I hope you join us for our "It's My Party!" Challenge & please check out D2D for more inspiration from our creative DT !

Going Buggy!

The Challenge @ Designed2Delight is Going Buggy! Use a bug somewhere on your project.
For my project, I used the image Garden Party by Faith @ Designed2Delight. I didn't realize, when I took this picture, that you can hardly see the bumble bee! I would retake the pic but I already sent them off to my Mom. I made about 10 of these, for her to give to her friends. My Mom is 84 & still plays golf twice a week!
I made a matchbook & altered it a bit. I punched a couple holes for the tees to set in. I added a little golf ball by punching a 1/2" circle & using a polka dot embossing folder. Before gluing the golf balls down, I flipped them over, so that inverted side of the polka dots is showing. I also inked the edges slightly in green.
A very easy, inexpensive & thoughtful gift.
Be sure to check out Designed2Delight for more inspiration!

We are in the middle of some bad weather right now. As I type, we are getting pounded by pea to marble size hail. UG!

When I was little...

My big sisters birthday is coming & I wanted to make her a special card. I have 4 big sisters, actually, & I am the "baby". :) They all had a hand in raising me & I wanted to grow up to be just like all of them. I borrowed their clothes, makeup, jewelry...anything I could get my hands on. I wanted so bad, to be a grown-up. Now, I wonder why I was in such a hurry! :)
For my card, I made a Center Step Card. A tutorial can be found @ SCS HERE. The sentiment is computer generated & says, "When I was little, I wanted to look just like you..." Inside says, "Luckily, I got over that!"  lol

The challenge @ One Stop Craft Challenge, is to use ice cream images or colors on your project. I love ice cream, even though I know it's not very healthy. For my card, I made a Tri Fold Card with Tag Insert. An easy- to- follow tutorial can be found HERE @ C.R.A.F.T. Challenge. I used a new image by Faith, at Designed2Delight called Vintage Baby Buggy. Thank You Teacher

(EDIT : I thought this post was lost forever by Blogger. But it has miraculously reappeared!)
I was inspired the other day by my friend Debbie, to make Thank You's for my Grand children's teachers. Being a teacher has to be the hardest job ever! I know there's no way I could do it.
For my card, I made a Double Pocket Card. You can find a tutorial HERE. I added a packet of flower seeds & a tag that could be used as a Bookmark.
I also want to point out that I did some sewing on my card & tag! (You all are such a bad influence on me.) Before you know it, I'll be in the kitchen, cooking again! Gads! :)

I scream for Ice cream!

Here is my 2nd & final card, as Guest DT for the Creative Cowgirls Challenge. The digi stamp I used is from the Michelle Perkett Studio. It's called I Scream For Ice Cream. I just couldn't help myself & had to paper-piece the ice cream.
Inside is a place to write a message. If you would like to make your own Side Step Card. There is a tutorial at Split Coast Stampers....click HERE. When I first saw a card like this, I thought it would be far too difficult for me to make. But it is really pretty easy. If you haven't already, give it a try!

Here's another card, using the same image!
I want to give a BIG thank you to the ladies @ Creative Cowgirls Challenge for letting me play with them!
Be sure to check out Creative Cowgirls Challenge for more inspiration & to join in on their Challenge - "Anything Goes!". It's lots of fun & you might win something!

Shaker card?

The Challenge @ The Stamp Fairy is to make a Shaker Card. I had never made one before so, I looked it up on the internet. Unfortunately all the supplies that it calls for, I don't have. :(  I did have a "treat cup" by SU! so that is what I used. I hope this qualifies for the challenge.
For my card I used a free image from The Stamp Fairy. Click HERE to check out their store & get some freebies! I colored the bunny with Copics & then punched a portion out with a 1-3/4" circle punch. I added some little chocolate sprinkles, that you would use for cake decorating. I thought they looked like the flower centers on the digi. But up-close, they sure look like mouse droppings! Hey, now there's an idea...;)

I plan on giving this to my Daughter-in-law for Mother's Day. I hope she likes it.

So many kids!!

I wanted to make a special card for my Mom & I found a tutorial on how to make a "Side Step Card" on SplitCoastStampers! When I first looked at it, it looked very intimidating. But it really is pretty easy to make. You really should try it, if you haven't already. Here's the Link.
For my card, I used Spring Kaela, Drew's Cupcake & Ladybug Kaela by Faith @ Designed2Delight. I surfed the net & found this sweet saying. Maybe you have read it before. I hadn't & I thought it was just perfect!

Here's a FUN challenge from "Card Ideas"! ABC (anything but a card), 123 (1 ribbon, 2 different patterned papers, 3 buttons) I just love this image "Drew's Cupcake" by Designed2Delight. Isn't he the cutest? I decided to make a Round Top Box. You can get the template HERE. Since my least favorite place to be is the kitchen, I bought a Little Debbie cupcake. It fit perfectly in this box! I added a candle & a tag.

Cake decorating meets the Digital Stamp

Today is my daughter-in-laws 30th birthday! For some reason I had a dumb-attack & volunteered to bring the cake. I used to dabble in cake decorating when my son was little. But anymore, I stay as far away from the kitchen as possible. I do occasionally dust it though. :)  I bought a frozen cake at our local grocery store. I added the digital stamp, "Garden Party" by Designed2Delight, printed off a "Happy Birthday" note & punched three flowers for the candles to sit in. I am pretty picky about the food I eat & where it has been, so the 2 square pieces are in SU! Cello Bags. I glued the #30 cutouts to some toothpicks and Voila!

This all has probably been done before, but humor me for a moment & let me believe that I came up with a fab idea. :) thanks for stopping! Hope you are having a great weekend...b.

Ladybug Kaela

I had so much fun making this bag! The other day, when I was wandering in blogland, I saw where someone used a "playing card" on their birthday project. How fun is that? There are so many neat ideas out there, I hardly have time to do those important things...like sleep.

The challenge @ Card Ideas is called "kidding around". Make a card/project for a young child. For my project, I used Ladybug Kaela by Designed2Delight. I colored her with Copics & then, cut out just the outside edge of her legs. Then, I put the image in my 2-1/2" Circle punch & punched the rest of the image out. For the 2nd circle, I used my handy dandy jar lid! :) For the 3rd circle, I used SU!'s Scallop Circle #2 Die. I learned how to make a simple bow yesterday (see 3-8-11 post). I have always struggled with bows & still do, but this method sure helps!

For my Mom

The challenge at The Crafty Pad is "For The Mums." This is a box I made for my Mom for Mother's Day. I love to recycle things & this is a throw-away box from work. I copied & printed old & some new, pictures of Mom, our family & me. I printed them on regular copy paper & decoupaged them on the box. After it dried, I took a rag with some dark stain on it & wiped over the whole box. After that dried, I decoupaged it a couple more times. It may not show in these pictures, but it looks antiquey. I printed off a saying that I found on the internet, by that famous guy, Anonymous. :) It says,
" When I look in the mirror
& I see your face.
It reminds me that
no matter where I go or what I do,
you will always be a part of me."
Happy Mother's Day Mom!

An angel to watch over you

Here's a door hanger I've made for my Granddaughter. I used "Angel Caroline" by Designed2Delight Digital Stamps. I am allergic to most jewelry & have collected quite a stash over the years. The silver star is an earring, that was my Mother-in-laws. The 2 silver buttons were my Grandmother's. So, you could say, that Grandma Jackie & Great-Great Grandma Fay are the angels watching over my Granddaughter while she sleeps. I have written a little note on the back, telling her about the earring & buttons. I hope she keeps it for a very long time.

Altered Clipboard

If you've never made an altered clipboard, you just have to give it a try. They are so fun to make. I have made a gazillion of them! :)
First thing you do, is choose 2- 12x12 coordinating patterned papers. Take a piece of STRONG wire & run it through the holes, to hold the clip open. (Be careful! If the clip snaps shut, it will hurt like heck!) Fold a couple small pieces of scotch tape & stick on the board. This will help hold your paper in place. Lay your paper onto the clipboard, under the clip, as far up as you can go. Flip your clipboard. Take an Exacto knife & trim all the way around the board.

Cut 2 pieces of your coordinating paper, to fit the top edge of your board. Put a small piece of rolled scotch tape on it, to hold it in place.

Take your finger nail & make a crease along the metal edge, so you know where to cut with your knife.
After you have trimmed around the metal, flip the board & use your knife to round the corners.

Do the same thing to the backside of your clipboard.

Cut a piece to fit on the top of the backside. If you lay the piece of paper on the board & rub your thumb over the metal rivets, it will make an impression on the backside of the paper. This will help you to know where to punch the holes. I used a 1/2" circle punch. If you don't have anything like that, just cut out the metal rivet area with your knife.
Flip the board over & trim up the edges with your knife. Carefully take all the pieces off your board, front & back. Remove the tape.

Spread Mod Podge, evenly, all over the front- side of your board. You will have to work quickly before it dries. Lay your paper on the board, starting at the top. Just like wallpapering, smooth out the wrinkles as you go. Some of the little wrinkles may not smooth out. Usually they go away when it dries. Do the same to the back-side.
Sometimes your paper will stretch when it gets wet. If this happens, trim with your knife.

Take a nail file & smooth the edges. I like the Shabby-Chic look, so I rough them up pretty good. Do this to both sides, all the way around. If you want to add an image over top of your paper, this is the time to do it. I added the letters of a friends name & D2D's "Luck Bird" to the front of mine. Let dry.

Cover the entire front & back with Mod Podge. Let dry completely. I hang them in my laundry room for at least 8 hours for the first coat. I usually put 3 coats on. 8 hrs between the 1st & 2nd, 2 hrs between the other. It really depends on how thick your paper is. If you rush it, the finish will be sticky.

After it has dried, you can add ribbons, buttons, whatever! Hope my directions didn't completely confuse you. :{
Hope you give it a try. :)
